Why does love have to be so complicated???

You start as an individual, so full of life, so independent… Then you meet someone.  Someone who does something stupid like smile at you or offer you a seat or give you the time of the day, making you feel special.  Then the next thing you know, your heart is ready for the taking!

Being in love makes us all VULNERABLE.  It takes down our guards, no matter how hard we try to make it stand still, it opens a whole wide space capable of hurting us when we have almost spent half our lives trying to avoid situations like these.  But the sad thing is that we are helpless and incapable of fighting back, of withdrawing, of shutting the feelings out…

And then there is always this constant FEAR… of being alone, of not being loved, of not finding someone who will love us even after seeing us first thing in the morning, with our hair in disarray and our eyes ever so droopy.

Love is not always what it’s been pimped up to be.  Most of the time it SUCKS!!!  Half the time you find someone you love but doesn’t love you back.  And sometimes, even if you think you have found it, you worry the years away, scared of losing the person you love.

And of course, we all have been in a situation so worthy of leaving behind. But instead of walking away, we stay. We stay because we fear that we might not be given another shot at love, we stay because we have been so used to having someone with us, we stay because we are so desperately in love that the other important things [such as our lives] are easily set aside.

LOVE is COMPLICATED…  And that is something we have to take in, as cold as it is.
